How it works

Before anything is placed, the joint or tendon is examined on screen so the target is the structure the evaluation identified, not an approximation from surface landmarks.
The preparation is placed under guidance
The needle is watched on the ultrasound screen as it travels and as the preparation is delivered. The procedure itself takes a few minutes.

Why placement matters more than the label
Orthobiologic preparations are marketed under a confusing number of names. The variable that a clinic actually controls is where the preparation ends up.
That is why ultrasound guidance is used here for both the assessment and the procedure. A joint space that is a centimeter from where you expect it is a common finding, not a rare one.
What the evidence does and does not support
There is reasonable published work on orthobiologic injection for knee osteoarthritis and for some tendon problems, and much weaker evidence elsewhere. The FDA's patient information on regenerative medicine therapies sets out what is and is not currently approved, and it is worth reading before any appointment.
We do not claim more than that, and we do not use the language the FDA warns patients about.
What happens if it does not work
Some people get no benefit. When the re-check shows nothing has moved, the plan changes: that may mean a different treatment in the Leesburg pain control services, or a referral for a surgical opinion.

At the first visit we record pain, range of movement and what you can and cannot do. At the re-check we measure the same things again and compare. If they have not moved, we say so.
It is a needle procedure, so bruising, soreness and, rarely, infection are possible. Some people get no benefit. The FDA has not established many of the claims made for these treatments in this market, which is why this page does not repeat them.
People with an active infection, a blood disorder or anticoagulation that cannot be safely managed, and people whose joint surfaces are already gone on imaging. The candidacy list above is the working version we check against.
